"Let Thy Food Be Thy Medicine, And Thy Medicine Be Thy Food." - Hippocrates is the opening quot for the documentary titled Food Matters. Food Matters is a documentary and a bit of a commentary challenging the way we as people see our food and relating factors primarily in America but affects us in a global way. The documentary takes a look at our current state of health, and wonders why with all the money going towards health questions why there are not many results, despite billions of dollars being spent. Seamlessly to me, the documentary hits a lot of nails on the heads and makes me wonder, in fact in has even made me question some of my own food choice and wonder about vitamins as an alternative to modern medicine. That being said, I have taken recognition to the arguments put out there by documentary, and allowed them to gain my attention. However, I do fill as though the documentary can come of long winded, preachy, and plane out just boring. Even though they have brought facts to the table, the commentary on a few occasions while watching made me yawn, all around i believe it was a very good documentary, but at the end of the day, i would only watch it once in a life time and categorize it as a snooze fest.

In this post i will be responding to an online article Millennials Are Redefining What Adulthood Means on the New York Times forum Room for Debate. Millennials are Redefining What Adulthood Means by Kim Parker is a article which goes into wonder and the uniqueness of the the Millennials generation coming in to the age of adulthood in a wandering way. Millennials are born between 1981-1997 and are the children of the Baby Boomers, Generation Xers and a few of them are the children of the Silent Generation. In the article Parker brought up that the "Millennials are on track to becoming the best-educated cohorts of young adults in American History", in these days to be succesful you have to have an education and now places of employment would desire you to have a masters degree, makes it understandable of why every one has to be in school. It is also brought up that the Millennials who don't have a college degree have a much harder time in life, they are paid low wages and are high in unemployment than previous generations have had. Another subject that the article brought up that the "Millennials are much slower to marry than their parents generations'. The millennials see less of a priorities to get married in society today and a quarter of them will not get married by the time they are middle aged. Although the Millennials do not get married as young and may have to go to school unless they want to get paid low wages, Millennials are stubbornly optimistic about their future. Considered the "Timeless Confidence of Youth", Millennials will either believe they have enough money to live a lifestyle or expect to live a certain lifestyle.
Food Matters is a compelling documentary that mainly speaks about what we as humans are putting into our bodies. During the documentary you were here about a few topics repeatedly such as Cancer, Depression, Heart Disease and Nutrition. Starting off, there is a quot that shows up in the beginning of the movies that states "Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food" (Hippocrates)". During the documentary you are also made aware that the top two killing diseases in American is Heart diseases and Cancer and that nutrition and a big and rising problem not only with Americans but humans in general. Also, you are introduced to quite a few doctors in the documentary such as Dr. Khartoum , Dr. Dean Marsh, Bill W and Abram who all have brought many new things to the table if not innovations that were over looked and lost in our history. Another topic of the documentary was the pharmaceutical company, how they make a "pill for every ill" as well as there global success accumulated over $300 billion a year just in American and is a Trillion dollar conglomerates.
Here i will write and reflect on my week and the events of it such as home and school. Class: In class on Thursday we went over what i missed on Tuesday, and then we watched a documentary called Food Matters. In this documentary there were many different arguments and brought up topics such as Cancer, Nutritions, Depression, Vitamins and Doctors who were lost in time. What seemed interesting to me was the use of vitamins to cure depression and to use a supplement called Niacin instead of a famous brand name of Prozac. All and all it was a pretty interesting documentary and i enjoyed it pretty well. Home:
Home has been filled with spontaneous acts and anxiety, masked by a cloud of chain smoke. From random 10 mile walks, drives up state PA, and from everything in between with a full tank of gas, an unused credit card, 2 bottles of liquor and a pack of cigarettes. I have though stumbled upon a new Bourbon that i like, i believed it was called Eagle Rare but it was really smooth with a bold taste. all and all it has been an interesting week even with the ups and downs, i can honestly say I would be satisfied calling it a complete week. Here i will describe my writing process for my Creative Nonfiction Essay. When i first started writing my Creative Nonfiction Essay, I started by opening a new blank document on Microsoft Word. While clearing my head and getting ready to write I prepared my area, I found a few things to snack on while writing, cleaned the house a little bit, and made the bed. Lately, i have to clean something and do more frivolous task just to clear my mind and freely be able to sit down and write. As soon i was done it was ruffly around 12 o'clock a.m. beginning my Wednesday morning productively and i wrote my opening scene with ease. Before starting the next, I did some web surfing to think about what i would write, so forth and so on until I gotten to the last paragraph. Although this process was able to help me complete a big portion of the essay, i was faced with to many distraction to count, it's a really good thing i don't have any social media accounts. On my last paragraph i got a little stuck and was not able to finish until Sunday morning at 2 a.m. while in the car sitting in the parking lot waiting to pick up Miney from work. Sitting in the car really did work for me seeing as it in a comfort zone for me that as less distractions and no WiFi.
In my essay i tried to have a good balance of showing and telling scenes, as well as a little reparation to get my point across of awakening in what i thought were the right places. Also, the purpose of the essay was trying to describe my experience where i kept of waking up from my dream into another dream. It was quit difficult trying to write off of pure memory and fear of a dream that didn't occur that moment of typing but, i was able to make it work by just taking my time and only writing "nonfiction" to do and complete my essay. Here is where I will give you the intro to my Creative Nonfiction Essay assignment.I awake to a grueling day before dawn, I open my eyes to blurry grey static and darkness fills the room as my vision returns. I unwrap my arms from around my future ex-wife Miney, roll over to the edge of the bed to sit up, sliding my feet into my slippers, and I slowly get up trying to gather my balance as the room spins. Stretching my arms to the height of the ceiling, letting out a roaring yawn, my eyes tear up, I wipe my eyes and walk into the bathroom to the left of me. Lifting up the toilet seat, I begin to pee, as a large stream of steaming fluids leave my body, my head slowly tilts up until I am starring at the ceiling. Upon finishing my morning piss, I fix myself, close the lid and flush the toilet. Stepping over to the sink, to the left of me, to wash my hands, I then look into the mirror at myself. My reflection winks, I avert my eyes really confused at the idea, and realize I am unable to wink. Thinking I am just imagining things I decide to take another look, my reflection grins, then it is swallowed up by a swirling void of darkness and I frightfully turned my back only to be greeted by a giant dark figure that pounces at me like a creeping lioness attacking its prey. I awake.
Here i will writing two showing scenes; Familiar Showing and Unfamiliar. Familiar Showing: It’s a cool summer night, and I am walking with some friends, when we decide to take a new shortcut. Approaching the train tracks, the brightest light is in our hand, smoke streams in the air. In the middle of the tracks for a split second time slowed down, the world is silent and still. A shadow the size of the hulk emerges. Two lights flash from separate directions, I hear freeze. It feels like I can hardly breathe, my movements seize. As the lights blind my eyes I turn my back, hoping to back track, and I am placed on the floor. While my back presses against a wooden fence, I feel the restraint of metal tightly against my wrist. Sitting on cold concrete being question by an authoritative voice with overcompensating muscles, I frown as my knees touch my chest and my eyes pierce the ground. Unfamiliar Showing: As the cold darkness of the night invades my surrounding, the light of the full moon and distant dead stars shine on my woes through the peaking window above my head. I feel blissful while the music sends chilling vibrations through my body, my mind drifts to a distant place. I’m moving through the streets without a care, eventually finding myself in a distance place. The heat warms my body, and my foot presses against the pedal, as I’m reclined and my hand grips the smooth roughness of the wheel. I find my comfort through the soothingness of being on the road.
Here i will translate telling scene into showing scenes. The theme of this post was predominately about spending a night at home, and showing a regular night in my life at home, where I am having a home cook meal and watching movies. Towards the end of a long day of typing and writing notes for my Sociology class, my future ex-wife comes home from work, greets me with a kiss, and then asks me if I am hungry. As my response is an obvious yes, she goes into the room to change her clothes, as I am finishing up my notes for the night. She walks into the kitchen to prepare the food, I put my school work away and log onto Netflix on the TV to pick out movies to watch during and after dinner before we go to bed. After the food is ready, I set up the eating area, and pour us something to drink as she makes the plates. As we sit down to enjoy our meal, she picks out one of the many movies I have put on the list to watch. Following the end of the meal when the leftover food is put away and the dishes soak in the sink to be washed at a later period in time, we pick out another movie to watch before adjourning to the bedroom to end the day. Towards the end of an exhausting long day of typing and writing notes for my Sociology class, my future ex-wife comes home with a lingering food stench from work, greets me with a long passionate kiss that makes the world around me disappear. In a soft caring voice she gently asks, “Are you hungry? “As my response is an obvious yes, she goes into the room to change her clothes, as I am finishing up my notes for the night. She walks into the kitchen to prepare the food, I put my school work away vigorously. I log onto Netflix on the TV to pick out movies to watch during and after dinner before we go to bed. While I am looking for movies to watch, there is an array of smells and sounds coming from the kitchen, I can smell the freshly open bottle of chardonnay, the sizzling alfredo sauce over the chicken and the sound of the boiling pasta. After the food is ready, I set up the eating area, and pour us something to drink as she makes the plates. As we sit down to enjoy our creamy, tender, delicious, and satisfying hot homemade meal, she picks out one of the many movies I have put on the list to watch. Following the end of the meal when the leftover food is put away and the dishes soak in the sink to be washed at a later period in time, we pick out another movie to watch before adjourning to the bedroom to end the day.
Here i will write and reflect on my week and the events of it such as home and school. This week started on the road, after the incident on Sunday I was a bit upset, and decided to go for a drive to try and cool off. Ever since I was younger going for a nice drive would relaxing, the destination never mattered I just like the smooth and relaxing feel of being in the car, having my music play and see what the world has to show me at that time. I started my on Sunday around 10, so my week really did start on the road. My Journey started on I 95, I drove around the whole city, then headed towards Valley Forge and just kept going after that. My first stop of the trip was at a WAWA in downtown West Chester for snacks and drinks to continue my journey. After that I stayed on roads only and made it up to Lancaster, after being on the strip for a bit, pulled over in the Tanager outlet parking lot, and sat there for a while before the police insisted we leave. After that, we decided to get something to eat from the Waffle House down the street and head home. Finally getting in the house at 4, I tried to get some rest before my 11:30 doctor’s appointment, it didn't go that well, also at my appointment after 7 years, I was finally diagnosed an Insomniac. I received some bad news at the Doctors as well, they said if one of my blood levels get any lower I can internally bleed, so after my appointment and getting something to eat my “future ex-wife” and I decided to go to Maryland to see a movie, museums, aquariums, etc. Half way there we discovered everything closed early, dam you presidents day. So, instead we went to the “Philadelphia Perineum Outlets” in Limerick PA and saw a movie at the Movie Tavern in Collegeville Pa, oddly enough the travel time was the same for Maryland and Limerick and I was already in Maryland. This week has been a long roller coaster ride, also I was unable to attend class and I haven’t gotten more than 5 hours of sleep in 7 days. At least i was able to spend the first real snow day of the year in the house relaxing, with company of my unconventional pup.
Here i will write and reflect on my week and the events of it such as home and school. Class: In class we went over the work due the following week and the website. I missed class on Tuesday, so I had to make my website and catch up. We also went over “essay structure: creative notification”, the showing scene and telling scene, which I think I understood the concept for. Home: At home, I tried to trade my dog with a different one, mainly, because I wanted to experience having a male dog for a change. Soon after, I went to the mall in search of items for oneself but didn’t have any luck, like always. At many times, people have raved about going to Chipotle so I finally seen what all the commotion was about. During the week I actually got out the house and had some pizza with my friends. Sunday, was my planned day to get some school work done, however, as I was getting things set up I received a call from my sister asking me to let her borrow my car. Indeed, I went over to my mom’s house to give her my car, waited a little while, then she dropped me off at the apartment. As I went back to the house, I made some tea, took a shower, and set everything up to start doing my school work, then I received another call from my sister telling me my mother got into an accident where she fell and almost bit her tongue off. Since, my sister had the car, she asked me if I wanted a ride to the hospital, but I kindly declined and allowed everyone to just get to the hospital. Shortly after, I gathered all of my school work, grabbed my laptop, bundled up, filled my flask with Jamison and put my headphones in to begin my walk to the hospital. But first, I ran into the wawa where I grabbed 2 red bulls, Gatorade, and a pack of cigarettes to get me through the walk. When I eventually made it to the hospital, things ran a lot smoother than expected. Later that night, I waited for my future ex-wife to get off of work, then picked her up, and together we dropped off my mother some soup then headed for a long ride into the next week.
